Most of us never really use our smartphones to their full potential. This can change with these simple hacks that will make you value your smartphone even more.

There is no doubt that smartphones have changed the way we communicate, work, structure our days and socialise. The potential they have to make lives easier keeps growing with every latest update. It’s no wonder people stay glued to their screens for a large portion of the day. Statista predicts that by 2019 there will be 2.5 billion smartphone users around the world. This year alone, just over 36 percent of the world’s population uses a smartphone, up from about 10 percent in 2011.

So how can you benefit fully from what your smartphone can do? Here are some easy hacks.

1. If you have poor signal

Losing signal can be one of the most annoying things to happen on your smartphone. If you ever find yourself in a place with a bad signal, change your phone into airplane mode for a few seconds. When you switch it back, the phone will automatically connect to the nearest cell tower.

2. Create your own side lamp

If you find yourself in desperate need of some light on your side table or during load shedding, you can use your camera flash and a bottle of water to create your very own side lamp. Just place the camera flash facing up and put your bottle on top of it so that the light shines bright.

 

3. Your phone camera can be the key to remembering things

If you always forget where you’ve parked or can’t remember what you need at the grocery store, the easiest thing to do is take a picture. Take a picture of your parking space and of your fridge or pantry before you head to the shops and remembering things will be far easier.

 

4. In the case of emergencies

Take a screenshot of your emergency contact’s name and number and change your background to the screenshot so that if you ever find yourself in an emergency situation, someone knows who to call.

 

5. When you have trouble waking up

Place your smartphone inside a cup next to your bed. Your alarm will be amplified by the cup making it loud enough for you to hear.
