Classic car show season back at last
As the stifling summer season rolls into autumn, cooler temperatures and returning winter residents brings us car shows and cruise-ins up and down the Treasure Coast.
It all kicked off with the recent American Car Classics Radio “Fall Classic” car and truck Show at the Indian River Fairgrounds and will culminate next June when the Vero Beach Elks Lodge holds its annual Father’s Day event.
Here’s a list of car shows and cruise-ins within a 30-mile radius of Indian River County.
On the third Monday of every month, there’s a Vero Beach cruise-in at the Trans America Truck Stop on Rt.60 in front of Popeye’s Chicken. When the weather cools this free event regularly draws 100-plus cars. There is music, prizes and a 50/50 raffle that benefits local charities.
A gigantic monthly cruise-in at Five Guys Burgers & Fries in Palm Bay is held every third Thursday of each month. Hosted by the Mopars of Brevard, it’s located in the Hammock Landing Shopping Center – west of I-95 at 225 Palm Bay Road.
Over 200 cars is the norm for this great event. Arrive at 5 p.m. for optimal parking. This is also a free event. For information call 321-480-9265
On Oct. 27, the Atlantic Rehabilitation Center at 3663 15th Ave, Vero Beach, will hold a classic car exhibit to benefit breast cancer research. The show will be from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.This is a free show.
The KDMF-3 import show is fun for all ages. Last year’s event was at Riverside Park, but it’s expanded to the IRC Fairgrounds on Saturday, Oct. 28. While the show focuses on import cars, it is actually open to all years and makes.
Tired of “Chevy, Ford – Ford, Chevy” car shows where you rarely see any other brands? Well, if you don’t mind the drive, the 39th BOP-C Car Show will be held in Auburndale on Oct. 28 from 9:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
What’s “BOP-C”? All years, makes, and models of Buick, Oldsmobile and Pontiac – plus Cadillac are welcome. No Chevys and no Fords – it’s worth the trip out!
The Chevrolet Fall Classic will be held Nov. 5 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Space Coast Harley-Davidson,1440 Sportsman Lane N.E., Palm Bay. $15 advance registration or $20 day of show. For information call 321-948-7553.
On Nov. 18, the Malabar Fall Festival Car show sponsored by Dolphin Auto will be held at the Malabar Community Park on Malabar Road just west of US 1 from 10 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. Pre registration is $15 while day of show entry is $20. Registered car owners receive a free T-shirt.
Velde Ford will hold its Ford Jump Start Antique Car Show on Nov. 11 from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. at Velde Ford, 488 US 1, Vero Beach. This is a fundraising event for the Veterans Council is sponsored by Ford Powerstroke Diesel. RSVP to Charlene Leblanc 772-569-3400.
Looking ahead to Dec. 18 there will be a car show at the Vero Beach Gun Show at the Indian River County Fairgrounds. The first 50 cars registered receive a dash plaque and reserved parking on the concrete under the pavilion.
